Perhaps you are experiencing increased stress at work or in your relationship, or you feel trapped by financial burdens or medical issues, such as chronic illness and pain. You may believe you’ve tried everything to understand your situation and take control of your health, but you still don’t know what you need to do to manage difficulties and find your place in the world. Do you wish you knew how to recognize and address the pain and stress in your life so you could find meaningful and lasting relief?
Many Individuals Struggle To Manage Their Physical And Emotional Health
Our physical and mental health are influenced by a wide variety of societal and cultural factors. Physical illness, for example, can stem from daily stress as well as accidents and disease. And, the more we understand the connection between the mind and the body, the more effectively we can manage our overall wellbeing.
Our conscious and subconscious thoughts can influence our emotional and physical wellbeing. As we grow up, our experiences shape the way we think about ourselves, our needs and what will make us happy. The messages we receive from other people as children mold our self-view as adults. But, as though we were kids hanging out with the wrong crowd, the negative messages we hear can quickly overwhelm the positive and begin to have a harmful impact on our lives. And, over time, you may start to believe that you are powerless to change the way you think or take control of distressing emotions and physical symptoms.
But, there is a path to relief. Health counseling with Dr. Marselle, Psy.D., RN, can help you come to terms with your situation and learn how to take care of yourself with compassion, care and patience.
Health Counseling Can Help You Take Control Of Your Wellbeing
There are times when you need someone who understands you and will listen to you without judgment and with confidentiality – who will respect you for who you are. But, it can be difficult to allow someone to fill this role in your life. If you can talk about the issues you are facing, however, you can start to see that you are still the same person at heart that you were when you were born. And, by recognizing how your experiences have shaped your life, you can choose to either keep going on the same path or start paying attention to your emotions and make different, healthier choices. Health counseling offers guidance and support to help you accept your situation and learn how to be functional and self-reliant.
I take a very deep approach to health counseling and focus on your unique experience as an individual. I recognize that feelings of unhappiness and helplessness often stem from negative self-perception. These harmful self-beliefs can prevent you from making decisions that would help you feel better about yourself. Rather than letting the negative messages you have received bring you down, I can help you learn from your experiences and focus on a more positive, loving view of yourself and others. You can see that there is only one you and only one life, and it is possible to hold onto that core understanding as you navigate the world. With support, you can accept that you are important and that you need and deserve to care for your physical and mental wellbeing.
It takes courage to contact a psychologist when you feel stuck and helpless to change your situation. You may be afraid of rejection or feel like you are admitting that something is wrong with you. But, you are not broken, and I take a compassionate, non-judgmental approach to counseling so you can feel safe and confident exploring the challenges in your life. I foster a welcoming and collaborative relationship, providing education and techniques tailored to your particular needs and goals. Everyone’s temperament, personality and support system is different, but there is always a path to greater awareness of the connection between mind, body and spirit. With health counseling, you can learn to make choices that are in line with your goals and values.
I have been helping individuals understand and address a variety of physical, mental and emotional health issues throughout my career. In addition to my extensive specialized training, education and experience as a licensed clinical psychologist, I have been assisting and advocating for my clients in hospitals across California as a Registered Nurse (RN) for the past 35 years. I know how the body works and what you need to do to keep it running well. And, as a certified TeleMental Health Provider, I can help you work toward greater health and happiness from the comfort of your own home.
It should be noted that my RN and my Psy.D. in psychology are two separate and distinct licenses. As a nurse, I learned to advocate and care for my patients. As a psychologist, however, my role is to diagnose and treat mental illness. It is this unique and rare combination of years of experience and specialized training in both fields that puts me in a position to provide more effective guidance and support for your physical and mental wellness. During your psychological evaluation and psychotherapy sessions, I can look at your health concerns with the eyes of an experienced nurse as well as in my role as medical psychologist. Together, we can take steps to help you clear your mind, strengthen your body and start feeling spiritually pure, like the vivacious kid you used to be.
You may be interested in health counseling but still have questions or concerns…
What will people think if they find out I’m in therapy?
Think of counseling like going to the gym – you are putting in time and effort to gain strength and flexibility in a certain area. Unlike the gym, however, I offer guidance and support for your mental, emotional and spiritual health as well as your physical wellbeing. And, by working with a licensed telehealth provider, you can complete each session from the privacy of your own home.
I’m dealing with a serious health issue. Can health counseling really help me?
Medical psychology is not intended to replace medical care, but in many cases, it can serve as an important step toward understanding your condition and finding relief. It should be noted that medical psychology is not always recommended, and I will work with you to find the most effective solutions and treatment approach for you.
I’m not sure I need health counseling – what if I’m just going through a tough period?
It can be hard to keep up with personal and professional responsibilities when you feel physically or emotionally unwell. And, while the discomfort you are experiencing may pass, you may be dealing with a more serious issue that time, alone, can’t heal. I help you understand why you are struggling and find out what you can do to start feeling better.
